Clue in on this:
So first off, it's been awhile! I'm thinking it's been nearly a month since I last posted any small bit of anything! And boy, oh boy, a lot has happened!
I'll show you in pictures, and maybe a few stories;)
I'm going to hop around the calendar a bit and first post about my favorite day: Halloween! (Which is also my bday) Then after that, our trek and blissful week up north. Oh north, how I wish I was one of yours!
This Halloween was fab! I got to participate in all those "traditional" halloween activities. Well maybe not all, but we tried:)
First, scarecrows! I originally got the idea to just make a father and son duo, but then Harrison (number 6,aka, Colonel Mustard) suggested we make a headless horseman as well. What a genius! This idea came to him because of our visit to Sleepy Hallow itself! So it's now quite dear to us all. Which might be morbid....? Oh well.
Thank goodness for a coupon Mom who each week collects roughly (literally;) 20 of those "value papers" that are plopped on your driveway whether you want them or not, and, they're loaded with coupons! (we're very thankful if you don't want them:) Otherwise, these scarecrows would still just be empty and so would my hopes for creating them this year.
Then, we decorated the house as fall-ish as we were able!
I got an idea for the mantle out of a magazine and was very excited to take the image off the pages and onto our mantle!
Where did I get it all? Well....
Pumpkins: Harry's!
I love Harry's!
There are only about two real Harry's left in Georgia due to Whole Foods buying them up. The Harry's we went to is actually currently owned by Whole Foods, but still goes by Harry's. (Love that too!)
When I was little we used to frequently go to Harry's. I adored it even then. The real market feel of it was how I think a grocery store should feel. Kroger is trying their best to get that feel, which I appreciate, but Harry's at least has kind people;}
About a month ago, Jordan, Mom, and I were around Harry's (for the first time in years!) and decided to stop in. I was just gasping, and oohing and ahhing, and gasping some more, and saying "I remember this" over and over and over and.......well, I was in memory lane heaven! (I was especially made fun of when I got excited about our cold cuts getting wrapped in...paper! No way!!;)
So the day before my birthday we celebrated the beginning of my 17th year. The morning of, Mom told me we were going to stop in at Harry's and get my birthday cake. (!!!!!!!) I think she said we were going other places, but I can't remember because I was too excited about going to Harry's. Yup, i'm weird, but easy to please:) It was so fun. I ended up getting 3 cakes, 3 white pumpkins, and about 3x3 smaller pumpkins for my mantle idea. Once again,*in heaven*.
The many adventures of the Burb.
We'll discuss meaning of later:)
Skip along to Halloween......
5:00pm.
Time to get our Clue on.
I began making Colonel Mustard.
Chandler (#4,who took all of the "Colonel Mustard Creating" pictures) is really getting a good eye for photography;)
I took these of him during a "dress rehearsal". I noticed the lighting would be awesome, so I ran and got my camera:)
Then Ms.Peacock.
Then Mom arrived home after a long coupon run (again, yes, I have a coupon Mom! Their so funny:) and helped create the rest of the characters:
(Drag cursor over after arrow;)>Mrs.White
Mr.Green
Ms.Scarlett
and
The Adorable Game Board
8:00pm(yes,it took that long)
Candy time.
It was unfortunately very damp outside. It was quite complicating.
7 people piled in the car and were dropped off, umbrellas and all, at the front of the neighborhood. We visit one house.
Then 7 people piled back into the car with now wet, muddy shoes, wet, dripping umbrellas, and semi-wet, semi-full candy buckets.
Repeat about 10 times, and retreat back home.
We did gather a surprisingly good amount of candy so all cold, and wet children were happy:)
We were welcomed in with my favorite smell, and the first of the season fire in the fireplace. Also paired with hot cider, my 3 gorgeous cakes, and presents.
Costumes were replaced with warm jammies, and we all gathered around the fire with two more guests, Grandma and Pop-Pop.
The night was beautiful.
It was sadly but soothingly ended with the sound of the settling crackling fire.
All-in-all, it was a really great day to forever be remembered.
I will always love Halloween, not just because it represents the day my life began, but because of what it brings.
Memories. Fall traditions. Awesome smells I've been waiting for all summer;) Togetherness. And events you never forget.
Or, that you will forever dream about. Which I think he's probably doing right now:)
!!Happy Fall!!
